Car accidents: Tennessee bicycle crash results in arrests

Bicycling has become a favorite pastime for many people across the country. While there are various positive benefits of doing so, cyclists are often at risk of being involved in car accidents caused by inattentive and otherwise negligent drivers. For example, a man in Tennessee was recently arrested for his alleged involvement in an incident that sent a cyclist to the hospital.

The incident happened on a day in June. Reports indicate that the victim and a friend were biking in an area designated as a bicycle route. The friend with the victim was recording their ride with a camera and is said to have captured the incident.

Footage allegedly shows a vehicle driven by a 58-year-old man clipping the cyclist as the vehicle passes the cyclist. Although the man reportedly failed to remain at the scene, he was arrested afterward. He now faces multiple charges, including reckless endangerment and failure to render aid; additional charges may be filed. The cyclist remains in the hospital, recovering from serious injuries.

Victims of car accidents such as this often face long recoveries. In many cases, they require extensive medical treatment. This treatment, in combination with lost wages, can often create an extreme financial burden. As a result, people in Tennessee injured as a result of another person's negligence often choose to file a personal injury lawsuit in a civil court. A successfully presented case that results in a financial award can help ensure that victims can focus on their physical recovery without the additional complication of financial stress.
