Those who design motor vehicles work tirelessly to add increased safety features to help protect passengers and drivers. Likewise, lawmakers enact safety laws and ensure other additional measures are put in place in an attempt to help prevent accidents. Unfortunately, these measures cannot completely prevent accidents caused by negligent drivers. In fact, the family of a Tennessee woman may be considering their legal options — including filing a wrongful death lawsuit — following a recent fatal crash.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident that resulted in the woman’s death happened one afternoon on a day in early June. A car driven by a 49-year-old man reportedly crossed the center line, causing a head on collision with the woman’s vehicle. The 75-year-old woman died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision.
While the extent of the male driver’s injuries are unclear, reports indicate that he was injured. Also unclear is whether criminal charges are anticipated as a result of the collision. However, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Families in Tennessee and across the country after often emotionally and financially unprepared for the unexpected loss of a family member. Unfortunately, the negligence of others often leaves families responding to such a scenario. To ensure that they are able to cover funeral costs and other expenses stemming from such an event, many surviving family members opt to file a wrongful death lawsuit. If their suit is successfully presented, they could receive a financial award to help cope with such costs and related financial losses.
