Adhering to traffic laws can prevent car accidents

Possessing a driver’s license is considered a privilege, not a right. Part of the responsibility of enjoying that privilege is an obligation to observe the traffic laws of the state. The laws in this state exist to help protect the lives of all Tennessee residents. Failure to comply with them can result in car accidents that cause serious or even fatal injuries.

A recent car accident occurred near Tennessee State University. It involved a collision between a pickup truck and a sedan at a busy intersection. According to witnesses, the pickup was speeding at the time of the accident and the driver apparently ignored a red light.

The pickup collided with the sedan, which was occupied by two graduate students from India. They were both pursuing advanced degrees in agriculture. Both were killed as a result of the impact from the collision. The driver of the pickup fled the scene and later showed up at a police station but refused to answer questions. The case remains under investigation.

Every time a person gets behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in Tennessee, he or she assumes responsibility for adhering to the traffic laws of the state. Accidents can happen to anyone at any time, but the chance of an accident increases exponentially if traffic laws are not obeyed. Speeding can be particularly dangerous as it lessens the response time available to the driver to avoid an accident. Maintaining a safe speed can prevent car accidents and help to ensure that everyone arrives safely at their destination.
