Tennessee wrongful death: Fatality when SUV, truck crash

The vast majority of drivers in Tennessee are committed to following traffic laws to protect themselves as well as others they may encounter. However, a single reckless action can quickly result in a fatal accident that will have ramifications for years to come. A wrongful death lawsuit could potentially follow a recent crash that resulted in the loss of life.

According to reports, the accident happened just before 4 p.m. on a day in August. The two vehicles involved, a sports utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer, were reportedly headed the same direction on a Tennessee roadway. Police say that the driver of the truck, a 42-year-old man, was slowing to make a right turn when the 33-year-old driver of the SUV attempted to pass the truck on the right, utilizing the shoulder of the road.

Unfortunately, the two vehicles collided, and a 37-year-old passenger in the SUV passed away. The conditions of both drivers are unclear, but both were injured. It is also unclear if criminal charges are expected to be filed as a result of the accident; however, the investigation is likely ongoing.

A family is now coping with the unexpected death of their family member due to a preventable accident. To help ensure they are able to manage the financial consequences of their loss, they may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit as a result of the Tennessee car accident. To help fully understand their options, victims of these types of accidents — including surviving family members in the event of a fatality — often seek advice from an attorney with experience with such cases. If it can be proved that the loss came as a result of another’s negligence, they could choose to pursue claims for damages in a civil court.
