Fatal car accidents: Arrest made in Tennessee

On Behalf of | Sep 25, 2017 | Car Accidents

Even when the road is filled with vehicles driven by safe drivers, there will still be accidents. However, once an accident happens, drivers who are involved are legally obligated to remain at the scene. Unfortunately, this does not occur in many car accidents. For example, police in Tennessee recently arrested a woman who they say left the scene of an accident that resulted in a fatality.

The incident happened during the early morning hours of a day in September. According to reports, two people, a 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were standing in the bike lane on a Tennessee bridge. Police believe that they were struck by a sports utility vehicle driven by a 23-year-old woman.

The male victim died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident while the woman remains hospitalized, listed in critical condition. Reports indicate that the driver did not remain at the scene. However, police located a vehicle that matched its description nearby; there was reportedly blood on the car at the time of its discovery. A woman has since been arrested, accused of leaving the scene of an accident knowing that death resulted.

The injured woman may face a long, difficult recovery as a result of the injuries she suffered in the collision while the family of the deceased man must now plan a funeral. While going through the stressful aftermath of an accident such as this, they must also face the reality of its impact on their financial situation — funeral expenses and medical costs can often create financial instability. As a result, many victims of car accidents in Tennessee make the decision to pursue damages in a civil court. If they can prove that their injuries or the death of their loved one was the result of another’s negligence, they could receive a monetary award.
