Conditions on Tennessee interstates can change at any moment for a variety of different reasons. As a result, drivers must remain alert and prepared to respond to a change, such as slowing traffic. Unfortunately, a pedestrian was recently killed in a Tennessee crash that resulted in the loss of his life; his family members could ultimately choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the drivers involved.
The incident happened just before 6:30 a.m. on a day in August. Reports indicate that the 34-year-old man exited his vehicle after he was involved in a single-vehicle accident and began walking on the shoulder of the road. In an area where the shoulder was narrow, he was allegedly struck by a pickup truck.
Some reports indicate that, when the pickup truck slowed — likely in response to the pedestrian — it was struck in the rear by a sports utility vehicle; the force of the impact may have pushed the truck into the pedestrian. That driver had reportedly been readying to change lanes and claims he was unable to avoid a collision. The pickup truck driver was cited for failing to provide proof of insurance and driving without a license.
Tennessee police officers are likely in the process of investigating the fatal collision in order to determine the exact cause. In the meantime, a family is left to come to terms with the unexpected, preventable death of their loved one. In order to cope with the expenses stemming from their loss, they may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. If they can prove that negligence resulted in their loved one’s death, they could receive a financial award that will help them manage the financial consequences of the accident.
