Wrongful death: Man arrested following fatal Tennessee crash

Every single person has made a mistake at one point in his or her life. The difference between many of those mistakes involves the measures taken in their aftermath. For example, when one person’s mistake results in a car accident, he or she has a responsibility to remain at the scene and render aid as possible. Police accuse one man in Tennessee of failing to remain at the scene of an accident that they say he caused. The accident could result in a wrongful death lawsuit.

The incident occurred on an interstate in Tennessee after 1 a.m. According to police reports, a car driven by a 35-year-old man slammed into the rear of a white vehicle. As a result, the second vehicle struck a guardrail, resulting in the driver’s death and minor injuries to a passenger. Police say the driver of the first car failed to remain at the scene.

However, following the description provided by a tractor-trailer driver who claims his vehicle was almost struck by a vehicle, police stopped the man who has since been arrested. The police officer claims that the vehicle was damaged and had white paint on it. The man was allegedly driving at excessive speeds at the time the car was stopped, and the officer claims to have detected an odor of alcohol. The man now faces multiple charges, including vehicular assault and vehicular homicide by intoxication.

Following an accident that is believed to have been caused by a driver who was under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors often choose to file criminal charges in the pursuit of justice. While a guilty conviction may provide some sense of justice to surviving family members, it will do little to help them cope with the financial ramifications of their loss. Funeral expenses and lost wages often leave surviving family members wondering how they will be able to pay their bills. As a result, many file a wrongful death lawsuit in civil court.
