A new year may not mean fewer car accidents

A new year has begun in Tennessee with yet another fatal car crash. A new year frequently begins with the hope that the new year will be better than the old year. Where car accidents are concerned, that hope may go unfulfilled. Roadways continue to get more crowded, and the increased number of vehicles leads to an increase in the likelihood of a serious accident.

A man was driving north on Chapman Highway in Knoxville when his vehicle swerved and entered the southbound lane. The pickup truck collided with a compact car that was heading south. The impact caused a chain reaction crash involving two other vehicles.

The occupants of the car that was initially hit were both wearing seat belts. The driver and his passenger were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where the driver was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His passenger was being treated for non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was charged with driving without a license and without proof of insurance. The occupants of the two other cars that were hit were uninjured.

Losing a loved one to tragic car accidents, or having a loved one seriously injured, can leave one feeling lost and consumed with grief. When the accident happens as a result of another driver's negligence or recklessness, a civil suit in Tennessee may be an option. A suit brought against the party deemed responsible can provide compensation for medical costs, final costs and other documented losses.
