Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Tennessee can be hazardous to the driver and to other drivers on the road. Car accidents can happen at any time, but when a driver is impaired, the likelihood of an accident rises dramatically. A serious accident took place on a recent Saturday night in Nashville.

A woman was driving a Honda Element on Old Hickory Boulevard near 28th Street when a Cadillac Escalade crossed into oncoming traffic. The Cadillac struck the Honda head-on. The woman driving the Honda died at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The woman who was driving the Escalade agreed to a blood alcohol test. She stated that she had been drinking and also smoked marijuana earlier that day. Metro police stated that the cause of the accident was still under investigation.

When a person dies suddenly in a preventable accident in Tennessee, it is bound to cause shock and grief among the family and loved ones of the deceased. While the funeral arrangements will be at the forefront of the thoughts of those left behind, the family may also want to consult with a personal injury attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can review the facts of the case and help to determine if a civil suit against the party deemed responsible is an option. A successfully litigated claim can provide compensation to the family to help with medical costs, final costs and other verifiable losses as a result of car accidents.
