Tennessee roadways are dangerous. Weather, road conditions and the actions of other drivers can make operating a motor vehicle a dangerous task. When a driver consumes alcohol or other ability-impairing drugs and then gets behind the wheel, others nearby are placed at serious risk for injury or death. Car accidents remain a significant concern across the state. A recent accident has cost one man his life and injured his young passenger.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a vehicle crash around 6 p.m. According to reports, a 40-year-old male was heading west when he crossed the centerline, striking another vehicle head-on. The eastbound vehicle was driven by a 52-year-old male and a 19-year-old female passenger.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. His passenger was injured, as was the driver of the offending vehicle. Police continue to investigate, and it remains unclear what caused the driver to breech the dividing line in the roadway.

Car accidents can leave victims with debilitating injuries and, when they are fatal, families without a loved one. For those involved in an accident that is the due to someone else’s negligence, seeking compensation for medical services rendered and lost wages, among other financial losses, is a possibility. For those who have lost a loved one in the same manner, filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court may be appropriate. With the guidance of a Tennessee attorney, family’s can decide the best course of action to seek damages.
