Wrongful death: Charges filed months after Tennessee crash

When another’s actions result in a fatality, surviving family members often need to pursue justice to help them come to terms with their loss. Unfortunately, the criminal justice process can be a lengthy one. For example, charges were only recently filed as a result of a fatal Tennessee crash that happened in March. However, there are paths to justice other than criminal charges, including a wrongful death lawsuit.

The incident that led to charges happened during the early mornings hours of a day in late March. According to police, a pickup was traveling north with a 25-year-old male and a 22-year-old female. The truck reportedly left the roadway and overturned.

When police arrived at the scene, they say the man was sitting on the ground outside of the vehicle while the woman was in ditch; she passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. One police officer, who explained that investigations into accidents such as this are often lengthy, claims that the police discovered that the male occupant was driving the truck at the time of the accident. He now faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and reckless driving. He remains jailed in lieu of bond.

In addition to helping family members in the pursuit of justice following the death of a loved one, a wrongful death lawsuit can help families manage the financial ramifications of their loss. If successfully presented, they could receive a monetary award to help with funeral expenses and other costs. An attorney with experience with such cases in Tennessee can help the grieving family fully understand the process.
