There are many things that can be done to ensure that teenagers are prepared for the potential dangers that they will encounter when they begin driving on Tennessee roadways. However, there are many incidents that no driver -- regardless of their experience behind the wheel -- can avoid. Unfortunately, a teenager recently lost her life in a collision that could ultimately lead to a wrongful death lawsuit.
The incident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. one Sunday in June. According to reports, the 16-year-old was headed west on a Tennessee highway when the incident occurred. Police claim that a 56-year-old man was driving east in the westbound lanes, causing a head-on collision.
Both the 16-year-old and her 14-year-old passenger had to be cut from the vehicle. The older victim was pronounced dead after she was transferred to the hospital. The driver of the second vehicle suffered critical injuries. It is unclear if alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash or if criminal charges will be filed, but the accident likely remains under investigation.
Unfortunately, the families of the two victims are likely in shock following the accident. While there is nothing that will relieve the grief stemming from this car accident, a successfully presented wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of the deceased victim could result in a monetary award that will be ensure that a negligent party is held responsible and help the family with the financial consequences of their unexpected and tragic loss. An attorney with experience with such cases can help them fully understand their options and initiate legal action.
