Wrongful death case possible following Tennessee crash

Safe drivers obey the speed limit and other traffic laws. They drive defensively, as advised in drivers' education courses. Unfortunately, even the safest drivers are unable to avoid the negligent actions of other drivers on Tennessee roadways. For example, a woman recently lost her life in an accident believed to have been caused by a wrong-way driver. A wrongful death lawsuit could be filed as a result of the accident.

The accident happened just before 5 a.m. on a day in May. According to reports, a car driven by an 18-year-old male was headed north in the southbound lanes of a Tennessee highway. Reports indicate that the car collided head-on with a vehicle traveling north.

Unfortunately, the driver of the second vehicle, a 21-year-old woman, passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. Three occupants of the first vehicle, including the driver and a 4-year-old, were injured. Police say that the toddler was not properly restrained in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, but reports indicate that criminal charges are pending.

There is often little a driver can do to avoid a vehicle traveling the wrong way. If the reports regarding the incident are accurate, a family is now grieving the unexpected loss of a loved one as a result of an accident that may have been preventable. In addition to their grief, some families struggle as a result of the financial ramifications of such a loss, including the costs of a funeral. To help with these expenses and ensure that responsible parties are held accountable for their actions, many family members in Tennessee file a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases can help these families fully understand their legal options and initiate action.
