Tires screech and then there is a crunching sound. The first thought that runs through the driver’s head is for everyone’s safety. Then, thoughts turn to the damage that has been done. Car accidents happen all too often throughout Tennessee.

When one is involved in a car accident, it is important to know what should and should not be done and said following the accident. One of the first things to keep in mind is that if medical attention is required, it should be requested immediately. Then, proper law enforcement officers should be notified; while waiting for law enforcement to arrive, drivers will want to exchange names, addresses, phone numbers and insurance information. In addition, drivers will want to note the license plate numbers of all vehicles involved in the accident. As soon as possible following the accident, drivers will also want to notify their insurance company.

It is important to remember that one does not want to make comments regarding fault or accident specifics. Of course, one will want to cooperate with law enforcement officers; however, care should be taken in making comments to others involved in the accident because these comments could later be taken to be an admission of fault. Finally, drivers will want to photograph the accident scene as well as all damage done to person or proper.

During the heat of the moment, one has no idea if legal action will need to be taken regarding a car accident. However, many Tennessee car accidents do result in extensive physical and financial damage. When this happens, one will want to make sure that he or she has taken the necessary steps, and he or she will want to discuss the situation with experienced legal counsel.
